In social settings i am always by Her side and attentive to Her needs, getting Her a drink, lighting a cigarette, responding politely yo Her and so on. At home and in family gatherings Nancy expects more and we have stronger signs of deference. Little but significant things like a slight bow to Her and my always addressing Her and Her Mother as "Ma-am".
