It doesn't need to be bowing or kneeling although that has its place; rather, showing some common courtesies, deferring to one's Wife, politely responding to Her, and so on are all ways that this can work. In our case Nancy insists on taking a visible lead and on my showing my deference to Her. In social settings i am always by Her side and attentive to Her needs, getting Her a drink, lighting a cigarette, responding politely yo Her and so on. At home and in family gatherings Nancy expects more and we have stronger signs of deference. Little but significant things like a slight bow to Her and my always addressing Her and Her Mother as "Ma-am".
