I can’t imagine pain being used to make me a better person. I like getting whacked for the sheer pleasure of it.

I seldom misbehave. So it has to be play.
We do plenty of beating and whatnot for fun, but we also (separately) do punishments. I don’t punish Joscelin because I think it’s the best way to “improve” him – I don’t, and wouldn’t (for instance) physically punish a child – but because it makes him feel deliciously controlled and is a since-childhood deep hot fantasy act for me. But there still isn’t that much punishment, because he doesn’t do anything wrong (within the context of our d/s) very often at all.
Punishment makes for very satisfying psychodrama.
